40% off Friday-Sunday for ALL School Staff!!!

  • Presque Isle Farm Cider (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This Labor Day, we’re reminded that the holiday exists because of the hard work, heart, and dedication of working people—especially those who build the foundations of our community.

For us here in Alpena, no group embodies that more than our educators and school staff at @alpenaschools Teachers, counselors, janitors, lunch workers, bus drivers, administrators—you carry so much on your shoulders. You don’t just teach; you inspire, protect, guide, and nurture. You keep the lights on, the halls clean, the students safe, and the doors open to possibility. None of us would be where we are today without your labor of love.

As former teachers ourselves, we know the long nights, the hard conversations, the endless giving of your energy and care. We also know the difference it makes in a young person’s life when an adult shows up with compassion, encouragement, and belief.

This Labor Day weekend, we want to celebrate you.

All teachers and school staff will receive 40% off all purchases at our cider taproom Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Just show your school ID and let us serve you as a small token of our enormous gratitude.

To every single educator and staff member in Alpena: thank you for shaping futures, strengthening families, and reminding us that the most important work often happens quietly, day after day. We see you, we appreciate you, and we raise our glass to you this weekend.

Happy Labor Day, and thank you for all you do.

Alpena Ballot Initiative Kick Off Tour with Up North Advocacy

Tired of waiting for politicians to make change? So are we. Learn how working folks are taking charge.

-Invest in MI Kids: Invest in MI Kids makes sure the wealthiest Michiganders pay their fair share. It would include a small tax surcharge on those who've benefitted most, with the money going directly to the School Aid Fund to support public schools across Michigan.
-Rank MI Vote: Proposes a constitutional amendment to bring ranked choice voting to Michigan. Ranked choice voting requires winning candidates to secure at least 50% of the vote and allows voters to rank their choice of candidates.
-Taking Back Our Power: Corporations shouldn't be able to buy their way out of accountability and silence our voices in our elections. This coalition is launching a campaign to ban these corporations from making political contributions in Michigan.
-Family Leave Optimal Coverage: Raise wages and guarantee paid family leave.

Up North Advocacy empowers Northern Michigan communities through encouraging civic engagement, amplifying our diverse voices, and advocating for positive change. Grounded in our love for our region and its people, we champion democracy, education, environmental stewardship, and inclusivity to create a stronger, resilient, more equitable home for all.

New Release/Art Show featuring: Chapel Of Ghouls, Nicholas Hartman

Visit Alpena did a feature on this Alpena native, artist Nicholas Hartman aka Chapel of Ghouls. You can read that interview in full here: Gravely Art from the Hart
And we’re so excited to invite him home for an art show at our Tap Room and feature HIS ARTWORK for our newest cider label! Hopefully we’ll be able to see a bunch of his other work as well.

Nick on Nick:
“My name is Nicholas Hartman but usually just go by Nick. I graduated from Alpena High School in 2004, received an Associate in Fine Arts from ACC, and a Bachelor of Science in Film Studies from GVSU. I worked as a Film Curator at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts located in Grand Rapids, MI for 8 plus years, but the museum closed due to the devastating effects of the pandemic. I’m now currently working for the historic Wealthy Theatre where I continue to curate films, manage theatre operations, and am head of the Grand Rapids Film Society.

Other than my professional work, I’m an artist who goes by the name Chapel of Ghouls. I’ve shown my work in a handful of galleries, put on my own art shows, and am an advocate for all things mental health. My hobbies include skateboarding, painting, listening to music, all things film, reading, and embracing the gift of life. I love drinking cold beer, spending time with my loved ones, and believe that every day should be lived to the fullest. I’ll rest when I’m dead.”
